El pasado sábado 10 de marzo, coincidiendo con la manifestación que un numeroso grupo de venezolanos realizamos frente a la sede de la Alcaldía de la ciudad de Calgary por la no apertura, hasta hoy, del Registro Electoral en el consulado venezolano en Vancouver, se celebró, promovido por Banesco, el mayor banco privado venezolano, la cuarta edición de su prestigioso seminario “Palabras para Venezuela” . Para esta ocasión invitaron a tres ex presidentes socialistas. De Brasil, Fernando Enrique Cardoso, de Chile, Ricardo Lagos y de España, Felipe González. La propuesta: analizar el futuro del subcontinente, de nuestra América Latina o Hispana. En pocas palabras, el futuro político de nuestras queridas y recordadas naciones. T housands of Venezuelans living in Western Canada will not be able to vote in the upcoming presidential election CALGARY- "To this date Venezuelan consular officials in the newly opened Venezuelan Consulate in the city of Vancouver have not opened the Register of Electors (RE). The Venezuelan RE will be closed on April 15 of this year. Time is running out to thousands of Venezuelans who are able and willing to register to exercise their rights to vote in the upcoming presidential election in Venezuela." This was explained by a group of Venezuelan citizens that are residents in the western Canadian provinces who expressed concerns about the flagrant violation of basic rights contained in the Venezuelan constitution. Any Venezuelan national, a situation similar to most countries, when living outside the country, must be granted the right to register and vote in presidential elections. This is typically done at Consular or Embassy offices in the resident country.
